She walked into a stranger’s garage and asked for help. At least, that’s how it looked—and it changed everything.
How she found help
She walked into the right garage
Heidi’s story begins in a yard that wasn’t hers.
She wandered onto a couple’s property and walked straight into their garage, where the husband was working in his shop. She went right up to him as if to say, “I need help.”
She was skinny, her coat was in poor condition, and she had serious skin problems. The couple gave her food and a safe place to stay while they spent the next two weeks trying to find where she belonged.
No owner came forward.
The Humane Society said they could take her, but they couldn’t guarantee what would happen after that. So the couple made one more attempt and posted her story on Facebook.
I saw the post and contacted them immediately.
“I’ll take her.”
That was the beginning of Heidi’s life with me.
The ride home—and the start of Heidi’s next chapter.
No name. No history.
I may never know where she came from
Heidi arrived without a name, a known age, or any information about where she had been. I believe she is somewhere between five and seven years old, although she may be older.
She was malnourished and suffering from mites. Her coat was thin and damaged, and she needed time, treatment and regular food.
We never found her original owners, so I may never know what her life was like before she walked into that garage.
What I do know is what happened next.

Healthy, comfortable and very much at home
Heidi is gaining weight, her skin has healed, and her coat is beautiful. She is safe, comfortable and very much at home.
She also has plenty of attitude.
