Finding his place
Ten years old.
A whole new beginning.
Winter came to me when he was ten years old. I knew settling into a new home might take time. For Winter, it meant taking everything at his own pace.
The cat behind the bookcase
For the first month, he stayed hidden behind a bookcase. I hardly saw him. The only way I knew he was there was that some of the food I left for him would disappear.
Over the next few months, he slowly began coming out. Little by little, he ventured farther into the house, finding his confidence and getting to know the family around him.
Six months, and one very good friend
After about six months, Winter finally settled in as a full member of the family. Then, one evening on our walk, Bogey came to his rescue. That moment cemented their relationship.
Now he runs the place and takes care of the dogs!
From hiding behind a bookcase to looking after his canine family—Winter found his place here, in his own time.
The little moments
A cat’s kind of aloha.
These glimpses of Winter say plenty: stretching out in the Maui sunshine, sharing a quiet moment with a dog, and making home a little more comfortable.

Life with Winter
A little closer to home.
Two everyday moments from my camera roll.
